The BMEF is pleased to announce our grants awarded for 2012. Over $30,000 in funding was approved for 13 projects to enhance and enrich a variety of curricular areas at all of the Briarcliff schools.

Freedom from Chemical Dependency (Spring 2012 and 2012-13 School Year) - BMS & BHS
FCD provides students and their parents with knowledge, understanding and skills to help them make healthy, informed choices about drugs and alcohol.
Purchase of French Horns to support K-12 Instrumental Ensembles. Contributes to a full complement of instruments in the concern band setting, as well as the potential to have a symphonic orchestra.

Hydroponic Window Farms - BMS & BHS
This project’s basic function is to bring the garden inside. Addresses issues such as: Gardening in limited space, using Hydroponic systems to provide food free of pesticides, finding new ways to grow food during the off season’ to deal with overpopulation, utilizing products that are grown locally, providing a positive "green feel" by growing food in the classroom.
Will provide portable, adequate amplification of all speakers/performers during presentations involving 5-10 participants. The addition of this equipment items will allow 10 performers to be amplified at once making it possible for an ensemble or a cast of characters to be heard in any space.
- Portable LCD HD TV - Todd
Video is an integral part of our lives and learning at Todd. Having one large-screen, up-to-date TV on a cart will be helpful on many occasions, and will serve during many teaching events. The objective of this grant proposal is to provide an up-to-date, secure, transportable TV that will be housed in the Todd Media Center.
- Smart Document Camera - Todd
Purchase of 3 Smart Document Cameras to be able to take pictures of documents and project them on the smart board. Pictures of documents can be saved on the shared drive.
- Sign Language Program - Todd
The Grant will allow for a sign language instructor to come to each kindergarten classroom and provide half-hour sessions of sign language instruction and activities twice a month for eight months. The instructor will also bring all of the supplies needed to instruct the students.
- Middle School Lobby Display - BMS
Purchase of a monitor and hardware to display messages to the students as they enter the building. This will have upcoming events at the school, show the current day in the schedule and have some school related photos displayed.
- Plein Air Painting Outdoor Table - BHS
Purchase of an outdoor table be placed directly outside of the art studios. In the spring and fall, the art department takes students outside to sketch and “plein air” paint. Although there is little view of landscape, students can see architecture and hopefully a small garden in the area.
- Greening Small Plot (Shrubs or Plants) - BHS
Creation of a courtyard area by planting some basic greenery and placing a picnic table outside of the doors of the art studios, band rooms and stage door area of the theater for students to use. Art, music and theater students will benefit. To be used in conjunction with "Plein Air" Painting grant.
- Comparison Microscopes for Forensic Science and Biology - BHS
Purchase of 2 comparison microscopes that allows placement of crime-scene and reference samples side by side for direct microscopic comparison. In biology, allows simultaneous view of similar cells or organisms subject to different environmental conditions.
- Gizmos Subscription for interactive software program to enhance science and math curriculum - BMS
